The government has decided to extend Parliament’s winter session beyond December 22, if needed, to get the Lokpal Bill passed in both Houses.
The amendments that the government intends to move could be finalised by Saturday evening and put before the Cabinet at its meeting on Sunday or Monday. Only “one or two issues remain to be sorted out”, officials involved in the drafting told The Indian Express.
Reservation for SC/STs, OBCs, minorities and women in the Lokpal — sought by several parties at Wednesday’s all-party meeting — will be part of the amended Bill. The extent of reservation is, however, yet to be decided.
On bringing the Prime Minister under the Lokpal — favoured with conditions by most parties — the government is likely to propose that a preliminary inquiry against a sitting Prime Minister should be ordered only after a meeting of all members of the Lokpal, where at least three-fourths agree on the enquiry.
